Yin yoga is the ideal workout addition for CrossFitters.
Holding grounded yoga poses for extended periods of time, a range of 3-5 minutes, allows for your muscles to fully relax and your body weight and gravity to effectively stretch out your connective tissue. Under no circumstances am I saying that the entire yin yoga class is comfortable, but as always in our daily CrossFit workouts, we find the comfort in the uncomfortable. You will work your muscles and joints hard during this class, but the end result is savasana where you can truly feel the change in your body and relax into your mat.

Yin style yoga reduces the risk of injury as we continue to push our body through tough CrossFit programming. It targets the areas where CrossFit can’t reach, allowing our connective tissues to become stronger and more supple, and releases pressure throughout the entire body.
The last thing that is great about practicing Yin yoga is that there is no specific equipment required. You can use a mat, but ultimately you can take the practice anywhere at any point during your day. Whether it is finding time at home, at work, or arriving to the box a little earlier than usual you should take time to slow down, hold a pose for a few minutes to help improve your mobility, mood, and overall health.
